				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The RecTech teens at the Delridge Community Center&#8217;s YMI program spent fall quarter creating a blog/website based along similar lines as the West Seattle Blog, a local blog news site that serves as a local network for news, and the West Seattle Herald, a print and electronic newspaper. The main difference is that our Rain City Voices blog was created by and for local teens! Teen interns selected the blog title, decided what areas they wanted to focus on, and each intern took on the task of serving as the editor for one of the blog topics. The teens each created a byline, wrote articles and film reviews, interviewed people, posted photos to the site, and created videos. We are still uploading content and will continue to work on Rain City Voices throughout future internships. A link will be added to the RecTech Reach website to the RainCityVoices website and we will be making cross-posts periodically between our two sites.<br />

<p>Here is a piece of work created by participants on the RecTech Internship at Southwest.</p>
<p>&#8220;Billy the Bully Beater&#8221;, you are not alone if you are being bullied, there are people to help.</p>
<p>This is a stop motion animation, using Lego, originally edited in Flash, then exported as video and re edited and dubbed in Premier. Photoshop was also used for edits to the stills made during the animation filming.</p>

<p>On Friday, May 11, eight students who participated in the RecTech Youth Media 24 Hour Film Competition at Delridge Community Center attended a Gala event at MOHAI. Three of our film teams walked away with honors.</p>
<p><strong><em>&#8220;History Is… Repetition,&#8221;</em> created by Bryan Shickley, Thien Vo, and Liban Mohamud </strong>won the <strong>MOHAI History Award</strong>. Film makers Bryan and Liban were winter quarter students at the RecTech Youth Media Interns program located at Delridge Community Center. Thien is a current RecTech Youth Media intern who has been working with us since the beginning of this year. All three students signed on for the 24 hour film challenge this spring and their team received the $1000 MOHAI History Award, which they split three ways.</p>
<p>Bryan Shickley is 16 and attends Big Picture High School. Thien Vo is 16 and attends Evergreen High School’s Technology, Engineering &amp; Communications School. Liban Mohamud is 14 and attends Chief Sealth International High School.</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8220;History Is…Invention&#8221;</strong></em> took the Best Youth Group Project award, and Samira Hussein and Hibo Mohamad received a $500 prize which they split two ways. Samira has been working with the RecTech Youth Media program since January 2012. She is 17 years old and attends Chief Sealth International High School. Hibo Mohamed signed on just for the 24 hour film challenge. She is a 17 year old student at West Seattle High School.</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8220;History Is…Basketball&#8221;</strong></em>, by Issa Mohamed, Evan Williams, and Sterling Espinoza, received an Honorable Mention.  Issa is a 15 year old student at West Seattle High School.  Evan Williams joined the Youth Media Interns for the first time to participate in the 24 Film Challenge. He is a student at Franklin High School. Sterling Espinoza is a 16 year old high school junior who has been with the RecTech Youth Media Internship for one year.</p>
<p>All of our winning interns came away with a great &#8220;swag bag&#8221; that included a SIFF short film festival weekend pass and a MOAHI membership. Congratulations to our RecTech Youth Media Filmmakers, and many thanks to our partners, SIFF and 911 Media Arts!</p>

<p><strong>Test out Windows 7 Professional</strong><br />
<a title="RecTech Yesler Lab" href="http://www.seattle.gov/parks/rectech/labs/yesler/" target="_blank">RecTech Yesler Lab </a>received operating system upgrades from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Professional.  The upgrade went smoothly without any issues, or hiccups.  Stop by and check out the new Windows 7 Professional operating system.  Yesler also has a virtual machine of Windows 7 Professional using <a title="Virtual Box" href="https://www.virtualbox.org/" target="_blank">Virtual Box</a> (an open source virtualization application) on one of the iMacs for an additional Windows machine to use if you&#8217;re not familiar with Macs yet.<br />

Our Internet content management system logs how much IP data has passed through the system.  How much is 90 Gigabytes of data?  This is a little less than 2 dual-layer Blu-ray discs 50 Gigabytes/layer, which is about 9 hours of high definition (HD) movies.</p>
